Vintage hand made Kimekomi doll from Japan, made in traditional Kimekomi style. This doll features a noble aristocrat in Kariginu wear. This outfit is made of a light and dark blue weave silk with gold colored silk thread patterning. Kariginu was worn as informal hunting wear by the Heian nobility and later as formal wear by the military aristocracy. Nowadays a white version of the Kariginu is still worn by priests during Shinto and Buddhist rituals. The hair of this doll is tied in a knot, over which he wears a silk Eboshi, a distinctive headgear worn by adult men during formal occasions. Also note the small details, such as the cute feet at the bottom, the golden fan and the subtly expression in his face.

Set of antique Japanese Satsuma ceramics. Plates in various sizes, incense burner, small vases and an exquisite large plate.  Satsuma ceramics were made from the later part of the 19th century through to the early 1920’s in Satsuma, southern Kagoshima prefecture in Japan.
These antique finds date back from Taisho era (1912-1926) as seen by the dark, matt background of some of the plates.   Satsuma pottery is often decorated with intricate Japanese figures of Kanon and ancient wise men referred to as the Japanese immortals, men who were of such greatness that they were unable to die, forced to live a life of study, worship and poverty. Often, the immortal would be a person who had lived in the mountains, revered by the Japanese as places of magic and awe.  These Satsuma ceramics are lavished with the images of the immortals and Kannon. All of them are hand painted with enamel and gold paint. The designs feature raised enamel, a form of decoration called Moriage.

When holding up in the light the porcelain cup shows a surprising detail of a Geisha.
All of these antique Satsuma finds have an original mark on the back.

All of the wool Kimono are unlined and can therefore easily be made shorter according to your own wishes. I can provide this service for you. 🪡

I have often been asked by some of my customers whether I can find large size Haori fitted for size L to XXL (40-44). I am going to shorten some of these Kimono to the length and fit of a Haori (Kimono jacket). It will have the perfect fit for a plus size. Beautiful to wear over a wool sweater during this winter! ❤️

This vintage creative (Sosaku) Kokeshi shows an Oshin (babysitter) with a child. Back in the days an Oshin was important to a Japanese family. This special Kokeshi consists of several parts that are ingeniously attached to each other. There are no loose or rotatable elements. The wooden body is the eye-catcher of this doll, on which the beautiful wood grains are visible. As well as the beautifully painted indigo Kimono with Igeta print she is wearing. This cute Kokeshi doll dates from the 1960s and is in perfect condition. Only the child’s face has faded slightly over the years. A true find for your interior.

Truly a beautiful vintage Kimono for children, made of silk with a subtly woven Sayagata pattern, which represents life and strength. This Kimono is richly decorated with many traditional symbols and patterns that represent Japan, in the most beautiful color tones. A family crest (Kamon) is printed on the frontpanels and backside. This Kimono is a real treat to look at. It is suitable for a child from 7 to approximately 11 years old, depending on the size of the child. The length of the model is 141 cm. If you have any doubts, please feel free to contact me. This Kimono is fully lined and is in perfect condition. Also nice to hang on your wall as a colorful gem from Japan. Taka is a Japanese child’s name meaning ‘eagle’ or ‘honorable’.

A unique vintage Daruma-e Kokeshi by Senzo Mouri (1916 – 2003), in Tsugaru style. As the eldest son from the Mouri family in northern Aomori prefecture, Senzo learned woodworking and Kokeshi doll making under the guidance of his father Shigetaro Mouri (1890 – 1955), a well-known Tsugaru Kokeshi craftsman. The Mouri family are the most famous artisans of the Tsugaru style and their dolls have become icons of traditional Kokeshi. Especially this design here with the cheerful face and the Daruma-e painting on the body, a characteristic of the Tsugaru style. This Kokeshi is in good condition and dates from the 1970s.
