Urushi lacquerware (shikki) address/phone book. Urushi is traditional Japanese lacquer refined from the Urushi tree, known as the Japanese lacquer tree. It takes 10 years for the tree to grow enough for resin harvesting, and only about a cupful of resin can be harvested. Each tree can only be harvested once. The flowers on the front are made with the Maki-e technique, by painting refined lacquer motifs on the surface and then sprinkling gold powder onto the lacquer before it hardens. This phonebook is unused and comes with its original box and is in perfect vintage condition.
