Elegant vintage kokeshi lady by Murakami Kenichi

This award-winning creative kokeshi doll by master Murakami Kenichi (born 1929) is called hajirai (shyness). This lady has a beautiful feminine shape, she covers her face with her kimono. Kenichi initially studied oil painting, around the mid 1940’s he began to study and create creative kokeshi. He hardly uses any paint for his kokeshi designs, only simple details of wood-burned lines, such as the hairlines on this kokeshi. The kokeshi is in good condition with only minor discoloration due to her age and sunlight.
