Setsugakka – Vintage purple Noren ~ SOLD
Vintage Noren curtain made from sturdy, deep purple cotton with a calligraphy print in bright white. The kanji reads Setsugekka (雪月花), meaning “snow, moon, and flowers”. This traditional Japanese expression represents the fleeting beauty of nature through the seasons: winter snow (setsu), the autumn moon (getsu) and spring flowers (ka).
As a graphic designer, I instantly fell in love when I found this Noren. It has a clean, modern look with an authentic Japanese character. It’s very versatile: hang it as a room divider in a doorway or hallway, or display it as a colourful textile on your wall.
Comes with its original box, covered in handmade paper, as well as the original insert featuring a Japanese text explaining the Setsugekka expression. This Noren is in excellent condition and appears to have never been used, dating back from the 1980s.
To hang a Japanese Noren: slide a tension rod or a wooden rod through the fabric sleeve at the top. You can also attach it to a wooden door frame using a few small pins. A rod and pins are not included.
