Silk imperiall doll in red Kimono
Handmade silk doll from Japan, this magnificent imperial doll is made in the traditional Kimekomi style. Her Kimono is made of woven silk with gold-colored patterns and layered sleeves in various color tones. The ocher yellow Hakama skirt with belt matches beautifully with her Kimono. The base of the doll is made in ingenious shapes, which are completely covered with brocade silk fabrics. There are some minor damages to the fabric on her left arm, due to aging. This doll is otherwise in good vintage condition. The original black base plate is included.
The body of a Kimekomi doll is made of ‘toso‘, a paulownia wood sawdust mixed with wheat starch paste, after which it is artfully covered with various silk woven fabrics. The head is made of bisque clay covered with a top layer of ‘gofun‘ (white seashell pigment). The hands of this doll are made of polyethylene.
