Three cute Kimekomi dolls in silk Kimono

Three cute vintage dolls made in traditional Kimekomi style. Each doll wears a different Kimono with an Obi belt and underkimono, all handmade with colorful Chirimen silk fabrics. Also notice the cute faces and hairstyles of these ladies. The dolls date from the 1980s and are in very good vintage condition.

The body of a Kimekomi doll is made of ‘toso‘, a paulownia wood sawdust mixed with wheat starch paste, after which it is artfully covered with various silk woven fabrics. The head is made of bisque clay covered with a top layer of ‘gofun‘ (white seashell pigment). The hands of these dolls are made of polyethylene.
