Vintage black Koinobori – Japanese carp streamer (1970s)
Bring a piece of Japanese tradition into your home (or outdoor) with this colourful vintage Koinobori from the 1970s, made from cotton. This windsock features a vibrant, characterful print with beautiful gold details. The piece is in good vintage condition, showing some authentic signs of age from long-term storage and outdoor use, all adding to its genuine vintage charm.
Koinobori:
In Japan, these large Koinobori (“carp streamers”) are displayed outdoors to celebrate Children’s Day (Tango no Sekku) on May 5th. The carp, known for its strength and determination, symbolizes the wish for children to grow up healthy, courageous, and resilient — just like the spirited carp swimming upstream.
This beautiful vintage gem makes a unique and versatile decoration: display it indoors as an artistic treasure, in your hallway or stairwell for a striking vertical effect, or hang it outdoors to let it dance joyfully in the wind.
A smaller red version is also available in my webshop, perfect for pairing and creating a colorful set!
