Vintage Fumibako – Japanese lacquered document box

Vintage Japanese Fumibako, traditionally used to store important writings and documents. This particular box was used to store sutras, Buddhist sacred texts containing teachings, prayers and religious writings. The box has a refined lacquer-style finish, decorated with traditional gold Maki-e emblems.

A Fumibako can be used in many ways: to keep special love letters, photographs, documents, or simply as a Japanese decorative object.

Good vintage condition. A few tiny areas of the gold border have slightly faded with age.
