Vintage hand painted Kakejiku (hanging scroll) with Japanese camellia
Vintage Kakejiku hanging scroll with an original hand painting of a Japanese camellia, with signature of the maker. The painting is surrounded by a black printed pattern on paper, this has discoloured somewhat over the years and there are minor damages and dents in a few places. The brocade silk is mounted on the edges above and below the painting. It has a sturdy wooden rod Jikusaki at the bottom to keep it hanging straight and to prevent it from swinging. At 186 cm long it is of a fairly large size. This Kakejiku dates from the 1950 or 1960s and is in reasonable vintage condition. Can easily be rolled up for storage.
Kakejiku is a hanging scroll of a Japanese painting or calligraphy on paper or silk. Kakejiku is used to spread Buddhism in Japan. Within Japanese culture it is popular as an interior decoration in a tatami room, a tea ceremony room or in a Buddhist altar.
