Vintage Hina dolls set of Emperor and Empress
Vintage Hina dolls set representing the Emperor and Empress, handcrafted in the traditional Kimekomi style. In this technique, the bodies are made from toso, a mixture of paulownia wood sawdust and wheat starch paste, the woven silk fabrics are carefully pressed into the carved grooves. This set dates to approximately the 1980s and remains in good vintage condition overall.
About Hina Matsuri
Each year on March 3rd, families in Japan celebrate Hina Matsuri, also known as the Girls’ Festival or Peach Festival. On this day, Hina dolls are displayed in homes across Japan. A complete Hina doll set traditionally includes figures representing the Emperor and Empress, court ladies, ministers, musicians, and attendants. Hina Matsuri is a celebration dedicated to girls, during which parents pray for the health, happiness, and prosperity of their daughters.
