Vintage Kimekomi doll wearing beautifully decorated Kimono
Magnificent vintage doll made in traditional Kimekomi style. This doll wears a stylized kimono covered with beautiful brocade woven silk in silver-beige and orange colors. She wears the orange Haori halfway down her body, the bulge on her back suggests an obi knot. Also notice the cute details, such as the feet at the bottom and the subtle painted eyebrows. This doll is in very good vintage condition, besides some tiny stains on the bottom.
The body of a Kimekomi doll is made of ‘toso‘, a paulownia wood sawdust mixed with wheat starch paste, after which it is artfully covered with various silk woven fabrics. The head is made of bisque clay covered with a top layer of ‘gofun‘ (white seashell pigment). The hands of this doll are made of polyethylene.
