Vintage Kokeshi by Sato Kouson

Vintage creative (Sosaku) Kokeshi by Sato Kouson, titled Aki (Autumn). Sato Kouson (also known as Komura) was one of the few female creative Kokeshi artists. She worked from her studio in Fukushima, in the heart of the devastating area of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
Her dolls are easily recognized by their friendly faces, and the paintings on their bodies of autumn leaves, camellia or chrysanthemum. She had a daring approach and was not afraid to make very large dolls. This doll has painted autumn leaves on her body, time has faded the leaves somewhat. The sweet face with the robust body shapes and the visible wood grains make this doll a true eye-catcher. This Kokeshi dates from the 60s and is in good vintage condition, signed on the bottom by Kouson.
