Vintage silk doll in red Kimono – handmade Kimekomi
Vintage Japanese Kimono doll handmade in the Kimekomi technique. The girl is dressed in a bright red silk brocade Kimono with a woven floral pattern in gold and white, combined with a blue Obi belt. She has thick hair and a cute round face. Also note the beautiful colors, the detailing at the bottom of the sleeves and her cute foot popping out underneath her kimono. This doll is in perfect vintage condition. A beautiful vintage find from Japan for your interior.
The body of a Kimekomi doll is made of ‘toso‘, a paulownia wood sawdust mixed with wheat starch paste, after which it is artfully covered with various silk brocade fabrics. The head is made of bisque clay covered with a top layer of ‘gofun‘ (crashed oyster shell). Read more about this special Kimekomi technique on my About page.
