TAKE – Vintage Noren curtain in aqua green
Vintage Noren curtain made from sturdy cotton in an aqua green tone, featuring a bold white Shodō calligraphy design. The kanji 竹 (Take) means “bamboo” in Japanese.
The signature shows that this is based on an artwork by Shimizu Kosho (1911-1999), a Japanese Buddhist monk, calligrapher and artist. He was the 207th Chief Abbot of Tōdai-ji Temple in Nara, Japan. He developed his own playful style of calligraphy and painting. See the last image for an example of his painting style.
• Hang it as a room divider, or display it as a traditional piece of Japanese wall art.
• Comes with its original box covered in handmade paper, as well as the original insert.
• The Noren is in good vintage condition, it dates from around the 1980s.
How to hang a Japanese Noren: simply slide a tension rod or a wooden rod through the fabric sleeve at the top. You can also attach it to a wooden door frame using a few small pins. Rod and pins are not included.
