EMA – Vintage Japanese votive tablets
A collection of various vintage Ema votive tablets, dating from the 1960s and 1970s. Each wooden plaque features an illustrated Japanese zodiac animal, shrine or traditional Japanese figure.
If you have ever travelled to Japan and visited one of its many temples or shrines, you will likely recognize these charming wooden tablets. Each temple or shrine has its own theme and designs, so this collection includes Ema tablets from different parts of Japan.
These Ema are unused, with no handwritten message on the back, and are in good vintage condition. They make a lovely small addition to a Japanese collection or a thoughtful gift for someone who loves Japan.
EMA
At shrines and temples across Japan, visitors write their wishes, prayers or hopes on wooden tablets called Ema. These are then hung at the shrine or temple, where they are traditionally offered to the Kami (deities or spirits).
