Gunma Kokeshi by Miyagawa Kunio

This handmade vintage Kokeshi is by Japanese award-winning master Miyagawa Kunio (1933 – ), born in the northern Gunma prefecture. This design won the Prime Ministers Award and is named Hanagasuri (Beautiful flowers). His son Yuichi has now continued the family tradition and also became a renowned Kokeshi maker. Gunma is known as the top producing area of Kokeshi in the creative (Sosaku) style, famous for its bob haircut, large body and special carved prints. This vintage Kokeshi wears a plum colored kimono, with a detailed carved print, hand-painted in red and purple. This Kokeshi is in good condition, two tiny scratches (face and body). Also available as set with this large Kokeshi.
