Handmade vintage Kokeshi by Japanese award-winning master Miyagawa Kunio (1933 – ), born in the northern Gunma prefecture. This design won the Prime Ministers Award and is named Hanagasuri (Beautiful flowers). His son Yuichi has now continued the family tradition and also became a renowned Kokeshi maker. Gunma is known as the top producing area of Kokeshi in the creative (Sosaku) style, famous for its bob haircut, large body and special carved prints. This large vintage Kokeshi wears a dark plum colored Kimono, with a detailed carved print, hand-painted in red and white. This Kokeshi is in perfect condition, no flaws. Also available as set with the smaller Kokeshi.
