Vintage doll of boy with bell in Heian era style

Vintage doll of a boy with bell made in traditional Kimekomi style. Such a beautiful vintage object from Japan for your interior, handmade and authentic.
The boy is dressed in a rich silk brocade court costume and hair style that refers to the Heian era. He holds metal bell with silk rope in his hands. The doll’s face is artictically hand-painted and his long black hair is tied up in a cute bundle on top of his head. This doll is in perfect vintage condition.

The body of a Kimekomi doll is made of ‘toso‘, a paulownia wood sawdust mixed with wheat starch paste, after which it is artfully covered with various silk brocade fabrics. The head is made of bisque clay covered with a top layer of ‘gofun‘ (crashed oyster shell). Read more about this special Kimekomi technique on my About page.
