Vintage Kimekomi doll in silk kimono with pink flowers
Vintage Kimono doll from Japan, made in traditional Kimekomi style. This doll wears a beautifully stylized kimono made of brocade woven beige-blue silk with pink and gold colored flowers. Around her waist she wears a bright red Obi belt that hangs longer at the back, this resembles the Kyoto Obi style. Also note the cute details, such as the cute feet at the bottom and the subtly folded lining. This doll is in good vintage condition, apart from some small age spots on the bottom and the body (hardly visible).
The body of a Kimekomi doll is made of ‘toso‘, a paulownia wood sawdust mixed with wheat starch paste, after which it is artfully covered with various silk woven fabrics. The head is made of bisque clay covered with a top layer of ‘gofun‘ (white seashell pigment). The hands of this doll are made of polyethylene.
