Yatai – silk Haori with gorgeous dessin of festival floats

Ooh la la… when I found this vintage Haori, it gave me the ultimate ‘Natsukashii feeling’. This Kimono jacket is decorated with a colorful dessin of festival floats, known as Yatai. It took me back to 2013 when I visited the beautiful old Edo town of Takayama in the Japanese Alps. Takayama is known for its Sanno Matsuri (the Takayama Festival), held annually in spring and autumn, during which these elaborately decorated floats parade through the streets of Takayama’s old town district. Oh well… back to this Kimono jacket… 🙂 The soft yellow silk fabric of this Haori has a subtle woven pattern and a beautiful Sakura dessin silk lining. It is again an unworn Haori and therefore in perfect condition. Dating from around 1970-1980s.
