KUROZUKA – vintage men’s Oshima Tsumugi haori – Handpainted Noh theatre lining
Vintage Haori (Kimono jacket) hand-sewn from fine Oshima Tsumugi silk in a beautiful blue tone. Oshima Tsumugi silk is renowned for its finely woven patterns and subtle sheen, this haori in particular has a slightly stiff and sturdy weave.
The silk lining (haura) features a hand-painted scene inspired by the famous Noh play Kurozuka (Adachigahara) and delicate handwritten text. It depicts the mysterious woman from the story, portrayed by a male Noh actor, seated beside a large red lacquer sake cup (sakazuki). In the play, she welcomes travellers and offers them sake before revealing her true identity as a terrifying demon. Quite a story to wear! The fun part: it can be worn both ways.
In perfect vintage condition, showing no signs of wear.
Suitable for both men and women.
Men’s Haori and Kimono differ slightly from women’s styles, they’re plain colored on the outside with colorful artistic linings. The sleeves are fully attached to the body of the garment, unlike women’s Kimono sleeves are partly loose and swing gracefully.
