Vintage Kakejiku – hanging scroll
Vintage Japanese Kakejiku (traditional hanging scroll) with a beautiful landscape painting on sturdy fabric, the brocade silk is carefully mounted on the edges and the top and bottom. The scroll is fully backed with thin, sturdy paper. It has two decorative fabric straps on the top and a sturdy wooden rod Jikusaki on the bottom to keep it hanging straight and prevent swaying. This Kakejiku dates from the 60s, it has some age spots (see images), otherwise in good vintage condition. Can easily be rolled up for storage.
Kakejiku is a hanging scroll of a Japanese painting or calligraphy on paper or silk. Kakejiku is used to spread Buddhism in Japan. Within the Japanese culture it is populair as interior decoration in a tatami room, a tea ceremony room or in a Buddhist altar.
