Vintage traditional Kokeshi set in Yajiro style
Beautiful traditional Kokeshi set in Yajiro style, the tall doll is handmade by Sato Hideo (born 1948) and the smaller one by Ishikawa Tokujiro (born 1915). Yajiro Kokeshi are handmade in Miyagi prefecture, in northern Japan. Yajiro style Kokeshi are often recognizable by their narrower waists and slightly wider bases. A hand-painted collar and various colored rings around the body and on top of the head. Yajiro Kokeshi are the most brightly colored of the various traditional Kokeshi styles. The taller doll also has a beautiful, hand-painted chrysanthemum flower on her body. This Kokesh set is made of white dogwood (mizuki) and is in very good vintage condition. Dates from the 1970s, signed by the artisans. See photos for all details. Also available separately.
