Ayane is a Japanese girl’s name meaning “colorful design”, perfectly capturing the spirit of this Haori.
Shibori is a Japanese manual tie-dye technique that originated in the 8th century. Thousands of tiny points are meticulously tied using thin threads before the fabric is hand-dyed. Once the threads are removed, a delicate and uneven motif emerges. The process is time-consuming and requires a high level of skill and focus. The word Shibori comes from the Japanese verb shiboru, meaning “to wring” or “to pinch”. There are many variations of Shibori binding techniques, each producing its own distinct pattern. The resulting silk fabric is soft, textured, and highly pleasant to the touch.
